Tim Judge

Hi. I’m Tim. I’m the founder and principal of Eco Assessment.

I’m a biologist by training. My interest in biology and ecology began shortly after the EPA was formed at the end of 1970. At about that time my father took me to see a red-tailed hawk’s nest. I was completely awed by that bird. I have been hooked on studying birds ever since. As a teenager, I spent part of one summer studying at The Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology with my father. Years later, after graduating college, I assisted in monitoring the health of the Brazilian rainforest by banding birds for identification. I did my undergraduate degree with a focus on ecology, natural history, and animal behavior.

During my early career, I permitted the first medical waste transfer in New York State. After gaining significant experience in permitting other projects for employers, I realized that I could continue to do permit work on my own.

That’s when I founded Eco Assessment.

Eco Assessment comes from the words Ecosystem and Assessment. One of the services I provide is conducting ecological assessments in a natural or wildlife area before a new business project can be permitted in that area. This is to ensure that the project will not have a negative impact on the wild area. My business focuses on smaller projects, especially for not-for-profit organizations.

One of the difficulties many organizations face in permitting a project is navigating the regulatory process. Even a relatively small project can require permits, or other approvals, from multiple agencies – federal, state, and local regulatory bodies. Eco Assessment has experience dealing with the approval and regulatory process, and the many agencies at all levels of government. I coordinate directly with you, the engineers, and the contractors to develop the documents needed to obtain approvals from regulatory authorities.

Eco Assessment is a small and agile company. I perform the work and I have a successful track record obtaining regulatory approvals. My approach with you is to take on your projects as my own. My role is to act as a buffer between you and the regulatory agencies while sharing insights about the process.

With Eco Assessment on your team you get:

  • Access to a person with many years of experience navigating the complex world of regulations.

  • Someone to make effective presentations in front of regulatory boards.

  • Someone who understands how to minimize the impact on our natural world while also achieving the goals of the project.

  • Competitive rates. We think…
